The Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR), the Institute for Development Studies (IDS), in collaboration with independent Nigerian academics/researchers studied the outcomes of energy protests in Nigeria. The aim of the study was to examine fuel protests in the last one decade, the dynamics of mobilisation and if, when and how these protests produced results.
From AE4A Demanding Power: Struggles over Energy Access in Fragile Settings in Mozambique, Nigeria, and Pakistan workstream, we published 2 working papers: 1) IDS Working Paper 555 – Demanding Power: Do Protests Empower Citizens to Hold Governments Accountable over Energy? and 2) IDS Working Paper 554 – Demanding Power: Struggles over Fuel Access in Nigeria). Additionally, the RP team co-convened a panel and presented a paper: Aluta discontinua: Nigeria fuel protests and their lessons on midwifing empowerment in fragile and conflict-affected settings at the 2021 Development Studies Association conference in June 2021
