The first 2016 professional development course in Advanced Research Design for Policy Oriented Research is scheduled for March 30 to April 9 in Nairobi. Thirty eight academics, researchers and policy actors from thirteen African countries are enrolled in the course, which consists of three core modules: Multi-Method Research, Critical Policy Engagement and Designing Social Inquiry. This training is relevant to PhD students, academics and researchers interested in enhancing their skills in the design of research that lends itself to a multi-method approach relevant to social policy and/or governance.
Ayobami Ojebode (Nigeria) and Emilly Maractho (Uganda), both past participants in PASGR’s Multi-Method Research courses, are coordinating the training. Other facilitators are Daniel Doh, Christian Kamala Kaghoma, Alemu Kassa, Ernest Onyishi and Aremu Fatai. Connie Nshemereirwe, Coretta Jonah and Damilola Agbalajobi are attending the course as observers. All the facilitators and observers have completed the course under the leadership of Peter Houtzager (Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex) and PASGR.
The successful applicants are currently going through intense online engagement with the facilitators and fellow participants in preparation for the course. Each day has assigned readings and questions to be discussed on the PASGR Moodle platform.
A 5-day module on Interpretive Methods and Ethnography will follow the Advanced Research Design course, beginning on April 11, facilitated by Tim Kelsall and Eunice Kamaara. Ann Rita Njageh and Nyambura Salome will attend as observers.
