Jonathan Tumwebaze is the first student to graduate in the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR)’s Collaborative Doctoral in Public Policy Programme currently offered in three universities i.e. University of Pretoria, University of Nairobi and University of Ibadan. He is among the first cohort of 15 students that enrolled in the programme in October 2019 and received PASGR’s PhD scholarships through financial support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
Jonathan, a Ugandan national, is one of the five students that were registered at the University of Pretoria. His PhD is entitled: Constructing a framework for child participation in child-focused policy design in Uganda, under the supervision of Prof Gerda van Dijk.
PASGR expresses gratitude to Prof Tawana Kupe, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria for his unwavering support that has seen the partnership between PASGR and the University of Pretoria thrive. We are thankful to the School of Public Management and Administration (SPMA) where the student was registered, particularly the entire team at SPMA that supported the student, under the leadership of Prof Gerda van Dijk and the Programme Coordinator Dr Stellah Lubanga. We also acknowledge previous support accorded by Prof Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu and Prof Natasja Holtzhausen, who ably helped launch the programme during their term as the Director and Head of SPMA, and the Programme Coordinator, respectively.
We take this opportunity to congratulate the student and his supervisor Prof. Gerda van Dijk.
