University of Ibadan Vice-Chancellor seeks better funding

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof Idowu Olayinka, has stated that the Nigerian governments must invest in knowledge generation, research and knowledge transmission to solve the nation’s problems.

Olayinka said this at the Postgraduate College Interdisciplinary lecture delivered by the Executive Director, Partnership for African Social and Governance Research, Prof Tade Aina, at the International Conference Centre of the institution on Tuesday.

He said problem-solving researches would give birth to solution-driven policies.

“In a situation where policymakers are poorly informed, implementers are ill-equipped or lack capacity for critical thinking, citizens will continue to live in darkness. Policy summersault is the effect of how people can consistently be on the wrong track and still be seeking redemption,” he added.

In his lecture, Aina advised President Muhammadu Buhari to employ Nigerian social scientists in developing solutions to poverty, unemployment and insecurity problems in his second term.
