Designing Multi-Method Research for Policy and Governance

Group work and peer critique are important elements of the Advanced Research Design course
Forty African researchers and academics met in Nairobi from  November 2-November 12, 2015.  From countries as diverse as Sudan, Madagascar and Liberia, they undertook a 10-day professional development course in Advanced Research Design for Policy-Oriented Research.

Designed for PhD students, academics and researchers to enhance their skills in designing research using a multi-method approach relevant to social policy and/or governance, the modules in the course included:

  • Critical Policy Engagement in Research;
  • Designing Social Inquiry; and,
  • Mixed Method Research Strategies

The course facilitators included several staff from IDS – University of Sussex, and past course participants attached to various African universities who have undergone training of trainers.
