Social Protection in Africa-A Conceptual and Theoretical Exploration

Date: 07 May 2021

This is the final thematic convening under PASGR’s Inclusive and Just Social Protection in Africa Series supported and co-convened with the Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa. The first convening focused on Southern Africa and looked at innovations in Social Protection in Africa. The second convening focused on Western Africa and discussed the extent to which current Social Protection interventions have been responsive to issues of inequality and inclusivity, identifying what interventions have worked and those that have not in achieving equity and inclusiveness.

With a focus on Eastern Africa, this webinar brings together experts in Social Protection viz. researchers, practitioners, funders, state and non-state actors to discuss the theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of competing Social Protection paradigms and their applicability within the African context. The participants will come up with what an ideal African responsive Social Protection paradigm should look like.
